The CMDB and CMS - the Powerhouse Of Service Management
Bytes would like to bring to your attention this conference on 8th and 9th July 2008 at Olympia, organised by BCS and itSMF.
Whilst not trying to suggest a resource-intensive ITIL implementation, Bytes do recommend that all Asset Managers should be conversant with the principles of configuration management, and how it can support and simplify the work. Software asset management is a key part of ITIL configuration management, however quite often it is the SAM Manager who manages the software (and hardware) IT assets.
The service desk is the most effective way of collecting data to track assets and the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is the most controlled and effective way to store and manage the data.
With these functions so closely linked, Bytes are supporting the conference with a speaker, and representation on the BCS Configuration Management Specialist Group (CMSG) committee.

BCS CMSG and itSMF Conference 2008 - Call for Papers
Jointly run by the BCS (British Computer Society) Configuration Management Support Group (CMSG) and the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF), the CMDB and CMS conference is the premier event for change, configuration and release management in the UK.
The CMDB is the ITIL defined Configuration Management Database that holds asset inventories including software and hardware. It should therefore be of interest to anybody involved in Software Asset Management (SAM).
