Envisioning Workshop
Customers are often unaware of their level of Software Asset Management (SAM) maturity as measured against industry standards such as ISO 19770 and ITIL v3.
Additionally customers are sometimes unaware or unable to demonstrate the value that SAM can bring to their organisation, particularly in the areas of service management, software procurement and compliance.
A recent IDC survey showed that companies are often confused by SAM, they don't appreciate the implied risk of non-compliancy or unapproved software, and do not consider that software is an asset.
The Envisioning Workshop is a one-day engagement that de-mystifies SAM. It enables companies to gain an understanding of the maturity of SAM in their organisation, articulate a SAM vision for the future and identify key steps that need to be taken.
The workshop uniquely provides the opportunity to discuss current issues and objectives with experienced SAM consultants as well as gain a tangible deliverable at the end of the workshop documenting their SAM maturity and a SAM roadmap.
It should be attended by senior managers responsible for SAM, service desk, procurement, compliance or any decision makers involved with the SAM process.
For a small investment in time the envisioning workshop will provide a level of understanding, uniquely focused on your company, which is not available elsewhere.
Envisioning objectives
The engagement should provide the following level of SAM understanding:
- Clarify the vision
- Creates confidence in your strategic solution
- Assurance that your solution is Best Practice
- Assurance that capital is used effectively
- Confidence that any planned SAM project will be successful
- Understanding of the effort required
- Clear way forward
What it entails
The Envisioning Workshop is a one-day engagement divided into three key stages, "Envisioning", "Assessment" and "Transition" as shown in the diagram.
What is covered in the workshop?
The workshop will cover processes defined in the ISO 19770 standard for asset management. It will review how lifecycle, verification, and compliance processes are conducted within the organisation. This will include the procurement and service desk processes, and will also consider integration with ITIL v3.
Any existing technologies which are related to SAM will be considered. The processes for capturing data across all lifecycle stages will also be reviewed with particular attention to how these are integrated and used across the organisation.
Organisational structure for SAM and executive support will be considered, including resources, skills, policies, and plans.
Final report and deliverables
As well as the focused information and knowledge gained in the workshop, a high level report will be produced that includes the maturity analysis, a summary of the key gaps, and a roadmap of the strategic direction. The report can be used to help customers address immediate issues or develop a programme of activity to address SAM and Service Management opportunities.
Follow-on
To compliment this one-day workshop Bytes also offer a ten-day consultancy review and roadmap engagement that provides a detailed analysis of the issues, analysis of options to address specific problems and/or technology needs and formulation of a SAM plan. Other bespoke engagements can be negotiated.
Timetable
Envisioning (3-4 hrs)
The workshop reviews the organisation's current strategy and priorities taking account of any known risks and issues. It will then discuss best practice in process, people, and technology.
Assessment (1/2 hr)
Having understood the organisational objectives a maturity assessment can be completed.
Lunch Break
During and after lunch a high level report will be created and the data analysed.
Transition
A presentation will be given to show the assessment, gaps and weaknesses in the SAM processes. Recommendations will be given, and a roadmap of activities discussed.
