In 2006, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) published the world’s first cross-industry baseline SAM standard – ISO / IEC 19770-1.
Developed to align closely with the ISO 2000 quality standard and ITIL, it defines the key ingredients of SAM.
ISO 19770-1:
- Is a highly structured and detailed framework for SAM
- Compliments ITIL, but ITIL is not a prerequisite
- Meets a common certifiable standard
- Has a self-assessment/certification process
- Is endorsed by vendors
- Defines the activities, not the processes, so it applies to all sizes of company
- Is vendor independent so no additional risk is imposed
By working through the standard, you can easily identify gaps in your SAM practises and prioritise the action you need to take.
