D365 Team Members Licensing Enforcement Reminder

In October 2018 Microsoft communicated changes to the Dynamics 365 for Team Members license to realign the use rights to the intended purpose of the Team Members license. To enable a smooth transition, they released a new Team Members SKU and created a grandfathering structure for existing customers on the old Team Members SKU.  

As technical enforcement of the Team Members changes announced in October 2018 come into affect, be aware of the following dates:

•    Starting 31st January 2020: Telemetry reports that provide visibility to customers on the nature of their Team Members usage became available to admins through the Power Platform Admin Center. Customers on the new Team Members SKU with usage that is out of compliance with Team Members Use Rights (see Microsoft Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide for details) will need to re-evaluate their licensing footprint. 


•    Starting 3rd February 2020: The Team Member app modules (Sales Team Member, Customer Service Team Member, Project Resource Hub) became available for admins to test, validate, and adopt across environments through the early access mechanism for the 2020 release wave 1. Customers on the new Team Members SKU with existing customizations will need to migrate those over to the new Team Member app modules. 


•    Starting 1st April 2020: Team Member app modules (Sales Team Member, Customer Service Team Member, Project Resource Hub) will be generally available, and technical enforcement of the new Team Members SKU will begin, through these new app modules. Customers on the new Team Members SKU will lose access to existing applications. NOTE: Only users who have transitioned to the new Team Members SKU will be affected.  


•    30th June 2020: Users on the old Team Members SKU will no longer be allowed to renew under the old terms. As communicated in October 2018, any customers renewing after June 30, 2020 will be required to renew their users on the new Team Members SKU and therefore be subject to the technical enforcement via the Team Member app modules.
