Windows 7 End of Support

Monday 20th January 2020

Microsoft made a commitment to provide 10 years of product support for Windows 7 when it was released on 22nd October 2009. This 10-year period has now ended, and Microsoft has discontinued Windows 7 support. The specific end of support day for Windows 7 was 14th January 2020. Technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect Windows 7 PCs are no longer available for the product. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

To help organisations who are not ready to move to Windows 10 to protect their data and applications Microsoft offer the following options:
•    Windows Virtual Desktop. An appropriate option for organisations that can use a virtualisation solution. Windows Virtual Desktop is the only cloud-based service that delivers a multi-user Windows 10 experience and is optimized for Office 365 ProPlus. This option includes free Windows 7 ESU.
•    Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU). A last-resort option. Organizations can purchase Windows 7 ESU separately. ESU are also available for Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008, and SQL Server 2008 R2. ESU are not available for Office 2010.

Contact your Bytes Account Manager today to explore the options.
