State-of-the-art datacentre delivers extra speed and scalability for Wessex Water

Overview

Utilities company Wessex Water provides services to 2.8 million people every day across a region that extends from Bristol and Gloucestershire, through Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and into Hampshire. The company is investing £1.4 billion in its services — to benefit customers and the environment. Now, thanks to a partnership with Bytes, the business has an IT estate that can scale easily and accelerate important projects.

Challenge

Wessex Water’s legacy storage hardware was reaching end of life. The business was growing and needed a more flexible and scalable IT infrastructure to manage changing workloads. In addition, the company wanted to accelerate time-to-market for ongoing projects as well as being able to create new applications in a more efficient way. A platform refresh would also present the opportunity to reduce complexity and simplify management.

Bytes worked diligently to understand what we wanted in a solution from the start. They were easy to deal with and incredibly supportive, and the solution has boosted our workload speeds.

The Bytes Solution

After understanding Wessex Water’s objectives, Bytes' technical consultants worked closely with their counterparts at Pure Storage and Veeam alongside the Wessex Water IT team. Together, they were able to scope, design and install a state-of-the-art datacentre — as well as providing support. At the heart of the solution, Veeam Backup ensures applications and data are protected 24x7, while Pure Storage delivers advanced application performance.

Benefits

By creating a joined-up solution with Veeam and Pure Storage, Bytes helped Wessex Water to achieve its goals. The company now has a more flexible and agile IT estate with simplified management, lower operational expenditure (OpEx) and improved application performance. The solution has also provided local backup and long-term archiving in the cloud. Both platforms have integration to the virtual environment, which allows Wessex Water to stay in control via a single management console.
